Stilbite & Heulandite on Matrix — Unst, Shetland Islands, Scotland
A sculptural cabinet piece featuring pearlescent stilbite fans and curved heulandite crystals rising from a textured zeolite matrix. The stilbite displays characteristic bow-tie aggregates with a silky, layered luster, while the heulandite shows the coffin-shaped terminations and soft green tint typical of fine Scottish material. Matrix surfaces are accented by golden-brown iron oxide inclusions that add depth and contrast.
Under shortwave UV (365 nm), this specimen exhibits a vivid blue-white fluorescence across both zeolite phases — with the heulandite showing a distinct cool-blue response and the stilbite a softer diffuse glow. Under 394 nm UV, the piece transitions to a warm violet-purple bloom, particularly intense across the heulandite zones.
